" In 2010 I had the amazing experience of living in Eraulo, a small village of the Letefoho region (a subdistrict of Ermera) in Timor Leste. This remote mountain area is a 2-3 hours drive from Dili, the capital of Timor Leste. I stayed at the St Bakhita Centre to teach English to the staff of this youth development and training centre and to children from nearby villages. The people of this region are proud, devout and unbelievably generous of spirit. The adults strive for a better life for their children. Few houses have water attached, all cook over open fires and only 50% of children can finish high school education due to lack of facilities. An average adult wage, when employed, is $3 per day. Progress is yearned for! We can make a difference by assisting the people of Letefoho in their progress as they work towards a better future.
LETS is an initiative of the Catholic Parish of the Lower North Shore in Sydney. Our parish has twinned with the parish of Letefoho in Timor Leste, symbolising our connection with, and commitment to supporting their community of 25,000 people."
If you would like to be involved, we would love to hear from you. Add your skills and experience to our existing volunteers, or undertake a fund-raising project of your own. LETS get those extra hands going!
We're continually working hard to help the Letefoho community build a brighter future. Check out Our Projects & Programs page to find out latest developments and fund-raising initiatives
We are working hand in hand with the people of Letefoho to help them build a brighter future for their community - including clean water, sanitation, education, local industry and communications.
