Our Impact

Working beside the Letefoho community to build a brighter future in education, health & sustainability

Since 2013, LETS has supported our Twinned Parish of Letefoho in the mountainous subdistrict of the Ermera region, Timor Leste (East Timor). It is one of the poorest subdistricts of Australia's third closest nation, home to 67 villages and over 28,000 people. The region is 72 km from the capital city Dili (2-3 hours drive away due to poor road conditions) and includes the village of Letefoho. LETS works with communities right across the region of Letefoho, as distinct from the village of the same name.

  • Our student sponsorship program started in 2017, and since then we have sponsored 1,028 high-school and 350 tertiary students; given IT, school supplies and drum band equipment.

  • We have also contributed to vehicles, water projects, school buildings, boarding houses, a chapel and community hall; and

  • Supported solar power and agriculture projects for self-sustainability.

LETS also hosts week-long Immersion Tours for visitors to experience the East Timorese way of life, spirituality, love and appreciation for all they have and receive.

How much of my money goes to the cause?

Everyone who works for LETS is a volunteer. We receive no benefit other than the joy of knowing that our projects make such a difference. It makes a world of difference to these remarkable people of Letefoho. They are so capable of doing so much with so little! Aside from a very small amount of money which goes to unavoidable fees to third party service providers (such as online payments fees), all money donated goes directly, 100%, to the cause.
